The Garden at Rabbit Run
Rabbit Run is our temporary garden. It’s a place to work out ideas before they find their permanent home at Sugar Hill. Not everything planted here will make the journey. But everything that is trialed will be documented.
The Great Experiment
This is Rabbit Run when we arrived at the end of May 2025. The goal was to create a garden to learn what plants thrive in the Kentucky clay soil. This is a temporary space so the focus is growing plants that I can move to Sugar Hill once the house is complete.
The Trial Garden
The 2026 garden season is focused on trialing plants. The soil has purposely not been amended. The goal is to see what plants thrive in Kentucky clay without being coddled.
The majority of plants have been grown from seed. The plants are spaced closely together to reduce the need for constant weeding.
New Color Schemes
The trial garden at Rabbit Run is a place to try new color schemes. The border is planted with different color schemes throughout the length of the border. Hands on experience with plants is the best way to learn how to combine plants that look beautiful together.
