Curating a Beautiful Garden

Linda Vater @potagerblog posted a photo of @barnsl Linda Vater @potagerblog posted a photo of @barnsley_house in her stories yesterday. She said she visited the garden when Rosemary Verey was still alive. For you that are unfamiliar with this garden, Rosemary Verey was the great garden designer that created this magical space. 🌿That got me thinking about the mark each gardener leaves on their gardens. 💚 Even the same garden will take on a different personality when cared for by a new gardener. 🌿 I think that’s what’s so cool about gardening. It’s like a living work of art. 💚 @potagerblog inspired me to post these photos of Barnsley House. We visited after Rosemary Verey passed. 🌿 I wonder what she’d like best about her garden today? 💚
I love reading old garden books and researching hi I love reading old garden books and researching historic gardens and gardeners. History is one of my favorite subjects besides math. 🌿 My love affair with garden history started after my visit to @stanhywet. 💚 The photo here is the English garden at Stan Hywet designed by Ellen Biddle Shipman. She was a successful Landscape Architect and Garden Designer at a time when women rarely worked outside the home. 💚 Her English garden at Stan Hywet was renovated based on her original plans which they have on display when you visit. Those plans were so cool to see! Those plans started an obsession. I’ve been crazy about garden history ever since. 🌿 Do you love knowing the history of old gardens too?

I am reading a new book about Ellen Biddle Shipman that inspired me to look through my photos from my last visit to Stan Hywet. I’ll post Shipman’s English garden tomorrow.
