Our first garden was created by digging up a 3 foot by 7 foot section of our backyard, surrounding it with concrete pavers we bought at Home Depot one weekend, and planting some perennial flowers a friend dug up from her yard.
There was no soil preparation. No grand garden design. No well-thought-out color scheme. In other words: we had no experience making gardens.
But despite our inexperience, those flowers grew like champions and set off our life-long gardening obsession.

Susan trained as a Master Gardener at Michigan State University, completed garden design courses, and now spends every waking moment in the garden. Tom is a certified ditch digger (Susan certified him), photographer, and the official “figure-out-how-to-build-this-thing-we-need” guy.
We’ve learned so much since starting with our first garden bed that we created this website to share our love of gardening by providing you with:
